India is the global leader in non-fungible token (NFT) gaming, while the number of play-to-earn (P2E) players in developed countries such as the US and France is significantly lower than in the rest of the world. The latest data from Finder has shown.
More people planning to play in the future
According to the latest NFT gaming data from Finder, India is the country with the highest number of respondents (34%) who have played P2E games. Hong Kong is the next largest country with 29%, while the United Arab Emirates ranks third with 27%.
While the popularity of P2E games appears to be increasing, data from Finder shows differences in interest levels between respondents from Western countries and the rest of the world. For example, in the United States, where about 14% of respondents said they knew what P2E is, only 9.4% played at least one game. In Sweden only 4.3% of respondents admitted to playing.
However, in the study where Finder sought to determine the NFT gaming habits of Internet users in 26 countries, the research firm said it found that more respondents in the US plan to play in the future. Commenting on the scale of the expected increase in the number of US residents planning to play P2E games in the future, Finder said:
This figure is expected to increase 1.8 times by the end of 2022, with the percentage of people in the US expected to reach 16.5%.
In France, where only 6% of respondents have played P2E games, this figure is expected to rise to 15%. Other big movers are Peru (13% to 29%) and Spain (8% to 17%).
Nigeria leads to Africa
Meanwhile, the survey also found respondents under the age of 35 to be leaders in NFT gaming. India again leads in this category with 41.7 per cent while Germany, Sweden and France all have less than 10%.
In Africa, respondents from only two countries – Nigeria and South Africa – participated in the study. In Nigeria, 16% of respondents said they have played P2E games and a further 16.9% plan to do so in the future. In South Africa, around 10.2% said they have played NFT games while 10.6% plan to do the same in the future.
