Polygon has announced a partnership with Nothing, the maker of the phone (1). The technology of the Ethereum Scaling Protocol will be integrated into Nothing’s first smartphone. While Polygon will not be manufacturing its own smartphones, the partnership aims to bring crypto and NFTs to a larger audience by enabling access to Web3 functionality for such users.

The phone maker will broadcast non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to its community investors. Dubbed “Nothing Community Dots,” the membership program will enable members to access exclusive community content. Some of the special perks include discounts on merchandise, admission to unique offline events, etc.
This is the first step in the collaborative effort, which comes ahead of the virtual launch of Nothing Phone (1) on July 12.
“This launch is designed to take the Nothing brand beyond consumer technology, making it the first in the region to bridge real-world products with the rapidly growing Web3 space. In the future, the goal is to make all of Nothing’s phone products and other ecosystem devices future-ready by supporting sustainable and secure access to Web3 applications.”
In addition to apps and games on the Polygon Platform, Nothing Phone (1) users will be able to pay for the network and use future features, such as proof-of-stake-based identity solutions, Polygon ID, and more. Polygon revealed that the ultimate goal is to make all of Nothing’s phone products and other ecosystem devices “future-ready” by supporting sustainable and secure access to Web3 apps.
Dive into blockchain-powered smartphones
Blockchain smartphones have been around since 2018. In fact, the first wave of such products from giants such as Samsung may not be a huge success, but industry players have gravitated towards the concept. One such Solana saga.
Last month, Solana unveiled a new Web3-powered smartphone, the ‘Solana Saga’, as well as a developer kit. The latter is called Solana Mobile Stack and provides Android developers with the tools they need to develop secure crypto wallets and Web3 apps. In short, the Solana Mobile Stack will come pre-installed on every Solana Saga.
Despite these efforts, the demand for blockchain smartphones hasn’t really subsided since the launch of the HTC Exodus. Solana’s pitch isn’t too far off from that of its predecessors.
