The global financial landscape is changing. Every day, more and more people start using cryptocurrencies. But as the popularity of cryptocurrencies grows, so does the number of opponents who seek unsuspecting victims in hopes of stealing tokens from their wallets. In a world where users’ privacy and security needs have evolved, the major messaging apps are stuck in the past.
A major part of the messaging app market is occupied by meta platforms (formerly Facebook). It owns WhatsApp with 2 billion users and Facebook Messenger with 1 billion users. WhatsApp attracted much of its base through its promise of security through end-to-end encryption, and Facebook Messenger promises stronger privacy through user controls. However, industry experts question either app’s ability to meet claims – the meta platform is known for being involved in a myriad of user data scams. Given the company’s track record, it is irresponsible to claim that any of its messaging apps are secure.
Next up is the popular messaging app Telegram, which has almost half a billion users. While Telegram does offer end-to-end encryption for private chats, this alone is not sufficient security. Telegram is popular among cryptocurrency enthusiasts, who usually congregate in large chat groups to discuss various tokens and investment strategies. Anyone who participates in one of these groups knows they are heavily polluted by scammers and bots. With real money on the line, this is incredibly dangerous, especially for those who are new to cryptocurrency.
So far, no major messaging app has broken into the cryptocurrency space. Without catering to cryptocurrency enthusiasts, these apps are turning their backs on the cryptocurrency community which has turned two percent of bitcoin into one of the best-performing assets of all time. There are millions or even billions of users around the world waiting to sign-up for a messenger that takes cryptocurrencies seriously.
That’s exactly what we’re doing with Toklok, the world’s first secure messenger to use cryptocurrency tokens. Keeping in mind the needs of cryptocurrency investors, we have pioneered advanced security features that make it the most secure messenger in the world.
The first – a standard – offers encryption but goes far beyond that to ensure private correspondence. What makes Toklok unique is that it is a non-public messenger, which means users decide who can communicate with them. This is achieved by using private chat rooms that give full control to their hosts – only they can invite other users. As such, neither scammers nor bots can send unwanted messages, and hosts can limit who has access to their conversations.
Furthermore, TokLok guarantees total anonymity. Encrypted message content is automatically deleted, and TokLok does not collect or store any information about users or their correspondence. Overall, these features enforce that only the target audience can read messages and join conversations. Whether messages are on their way to their recipients or are being read, they are protected.
We are also working on a feature that will enable users to connect directly without going through cellular or internet networks. This feature will leverage secure Bluetooth technology to create a long-distance connectivity mesh while preserving TokLok’s existing security features.
Although our app is already developed, we have decided to go public through an initial coin offering, or ICO. The sale of our TOL tokens (ERC20) will be used to develop new features such as our secure bluetooth mesh and to provide continuous security updates. In total, there will be three token sale rounds, each of which will sell TOL tokens at a higher price than the previous. The first round has got off to a good start, with almost 10% of its supply sold off in the past few days. By providing cryptocurrency what users really need, Toklok is set to become not only the most secure, but also the largest, messaging app in the world.
