Blockchain intelligence firm Chainalysis has launched crypto incident response program To assist organizations that have been targeted by hackers and ransomware to recover their funds.
Target organizations that have opted for coverage from the unit will have access to a 24/7 hotline. Once contact has been made between the victim organization and the response unit, Chainalysis will employ a team of experts to “work clock and shoulder” with them and, if necessary, liaise with law enforcement. will help.
Chainalysis’s investigation manager, Jarno Latikainen, is credited with leading the project.
Chainalysis shares crypto crime statistics
According to data from Chainalysis, legitimate use of crypto far exceeds criminal use – last year only 0.15% of transactions involved illegal addresses – but crypto thefts employing hackers or ransomware are at an all-time high.
The total value looted by ransomware attackers between 2019 and 2020 ranged from $144 million to $728 million—a level that remained stable throughout 2022.
Meanwhile, the total value looted by hackers soared to an all-time high of over $3 billion last year, down from less than a billion during 2020. The total number of hackers increased from 117 in 2020 to 251 in 2021.
It looks like we are on track for another record year in 2022. The total number of hacks this year (YTD) currently stands at 64, while the total looted is slightly less than $2 billion.
